Has the mountains of SWVA become the new place for what many term Pill Heads.
The recent drug bust, from all counties in SWVA, seem to prove that we have a huge problem with drugs in our area. One bigger than many even thought.
And many of those picked up or arrested were in control of prescription drugs. From the youngest to the more elderly it seems all age groups are affected.
All this does is make law enforcement stricter on those who get medications and need them. I know some folks that have to have pain medications and other medications, but the few are now making it such an addiction problem, that those suffering from real illnesses are having it hard keeping their medications.
I have had a couple folks tell me they hide their medications because they know some of the folks in the local area are stealing prescription drugs and selling them.
Folks i think when it is this evident, we need to look at the problem.
It's not just kids either it's adults and adults of all age.
Addiction is a serious problem. And overdoses and drug arrest any more seem to top the local talk.
Yeah i know things change and grow. But are we growing in the right direction?
Sorry to ramble, but it's kind of scary when you see what is really going on, with this thing about the pills, and you hear the word Pill Head said pretty often, and sometimes about folks you know or thought you knew. Yeah it happens and it is an addiction problem. Like any other addiction, but it's not being looked at that way.
Problem is were not solving or stopping any of the inflow on pills or working to stop the addiction.
Like one person told me. Only way you stop these folks or even catch who is doing the selling, is once they sell it to someone and it hurts them. Then folks call and tell us, this person is selling. Or when some on gets busted and squeals on the others to bargain out.
After it's to late is the biggy though. Once a person has O.D. on a drug.
Kind of sad when you see kids involved. Makes me wonder how much control the addiction has, when a person will choose a pill over their child. Or jail time away from their children.
And yeah it has gotten to the point even our local employment suffers, because of those doing it on the job. Employers are having to take long hard looks at backgrounds and more now about drugs than work effort.
A sad thing. But another reality we have to face these days in SWVA. I know we can't hold change from coming. But you have to some times question is all change good.
